One of the fundamental things I have learnt about the course is the role that technologies played low budget productions like mine. I received digital filmmaking training in schools where I gained hands on experience on using a range of equipment.

Most certainly, the use of web 2.0 has opened new vistas and from the moment I was told about this project, Google search engine, YouTube and other related sites really helped me with my research and planning. With the rise of video sharing sites like YouTube and Vimeo, I was able to find clips, extracts that inspired me to plan my film.

I was introduced to the digital video camera which I was going to use for my video. I understood the principles of filming and the fact that I was given a boom pole, microphone and headset, I realised the importance of sound when filming.

To add variety to my camera shots, I also used a dolly. I firmly believe that if such equipment were not available to independent film makers like me, I would not have been able to realise this project efficiently.

This also allowed me to look at a wider range of clips which I possibly could not have done if I had to rely on DVD – which ultimately would have forced me to be really selective with which film to watch. I think such a technology has given exposure to a wealth of information.
