During my research I looked closely at the British Board of Film Classification where I looked at the certificate ratings that thriller movies are classed under. Most of them were 15 and 18 but there were quite a number who were also classed a 12 as long as strong language and violence are excluded.

I chose this kind of enigmatic storyline to create anticipation and excitement for my audience to want to know more. The fact that the end of the opening sequence is interpretative, the audience would be encouraged to watch as their curiosity would be aroused as no one knows who or what is in the house and whatever it is it surely is dangerous.

In order to capture the sense of panic and fear, I chose to use slow motion so that it emphasizes on these emotions that the audience can empathize with.

To gauge the interest of the audience, I made use of a range of camera angles so that they can relate to the narrative and feel part of the experience.

One important camera movement that could really engage the audience is the tracking POV shot from the staircase, which creates a creepy feeling of being watched. That sense of discomfort is typical of thrillers and by attempting to conform to the conventions, it was one sure way of targeting the audience correctly.

As my video is targeting a 12A, when scripting my opening sequence and planning for it, I paid careful attention to target my audience accordingly in order to successfully engage them in the narrative. Besides, my opening sequence suggests it is either a supernatural or crime thriller with the mysterious sounds in the house and the notion of intrusion.
