Bearing these conventions I planned my two productions. I realised that I needed to cater for a 12+ so that it influenced my choice of narrative, cast, locations, costume and most importantly the script.
However thrillers such as actions and crime are targeted to people aged 16-29 as most people prefer to watch these types of thriller. Films like ‘Safe’ and 'Wanted’ would attract male audiences as the films contain weapons and strong language.
As the preliminary task had a set brief, I had to think creatively how I could target my audience. I chose a young male patient to play the role of the disturbed and jealous boyfriend who murders his girlfriend as the target audience would relate to this age and such occurrences may happen.
More films such as ‘Black Swan’, ‘Scream’ are also ranked a 15 whereas ‘Silence of the lambs’ is rated 18 or R. The reason for this being the film included a lot of blood, killing and torture. This is not suitable for children or young teenagers.
