Making a film is just one phase in the campaign to promote the product. The next phase is as crucial and that’s the process of distribution so that the audience can consume that product.  America’s big 5 (Paramount, Universal, Sony Pictures , 20th Century Fox and Lionsgate) tend to control the distribution of big banner films where the budget and the cast already define the success of the film.

In my case, my film is low budget, a Do-It-Yourself production which may follow conventions of thriller openings but would not necessarily attract these distributors for the fact that it does not come across as professional enough to match their standards.

Many films like ‘Shifty’ and ‘Bend it Like Beckham’ just to name a few have been distributed by these companies which have later brought them a lot of fame and recognition in the film industry both nationally and worldwide.

By looking closely at the thriller box office of 2012, the Hunger Games were at the top and distributed by Lionsgate, then Taken2 by 20th Century Fox and the next one Safe House by Universal. This clearly confirms that the top thriller movies are distributed by these corporations then my movie stands more chances of being distributed by independent distributors like Metrodome.

Metrodome is a London based company which manages and distributes films. It provides incentives to small British films by providing them with a budget of £100,000 and 18 days to complete the film and even the BFI provides this sort of initiative to encourage independent film makers to distribute their films.
