Considering that my film is low budget and that I followed the conventions of the genre, I might interest the distributors if I explained my decisions to cast the two youngs watching TV in a bedroom which later becomes a place of horror conforms with the convention of extraordinary things happening in ordinary situations.
Like Paranormal Activity which screened in Screamfest Film Festival then in the Slamdance Film Festival in the US when Paramount acquired the rights of distribution for the film and since the success of this low budget movie has topped the box office figures. Due to these initiatives and the big distributors showing an interest in independent productions, there are now more opportunities of getting your film know worldwide.
Equally there are regular film festivals for independent film makers such as the London Films Festival and The Sundance Festival. This could be one of the platforms by which I could showcase my opening sequence to the audience and hopefully gain the interest of a distributor.
The phenomenon that has hit the business by storm is social and digital media. With the rise of video sharing sites like YouTube and Vimeo just to name a few, there is bigger scope for exposure to the general public. With features like ‘comments’ and ‘likes’ on these sites, a film or artist can become a worldwide hit.
Therefore with the convergence of technologies with the film industry, I will be able to showcase my work on social media where I could further promote it by having an official page that will allow the audience to view, review and like the film which hopefully might attract distributors who now analyse social media figures as a way to decide if you are hired or fired. .
The selling point of my opening sequence is the fact that the audience does not see the face of the thing or person that brings so much horror. The audience only sees that the traumatised faces of the boys as they run for their lives leaving the audience confused while at the same time eager to find out. This is principally the reason why people watch thrillers, for that kind of experience and I believe that my opening sequence manages to deliver that.
