The Strangers

The Strangers Opening starts off with production credits and then half way through begins with a scene. However, this scene is shown at the end of the opening sequence as it flows with the rest of the scene. The title appears after the first sequence has already been watched. This plays with the audiences focus as they believe that the film as already started but the use of the position interrupts them and realises that it hasn’t started it.

The pan of the wide angle shots with the use of black fade transitions in between creates tension as the audience awaits to see what lies beyond.

Panning in the beginning shows the detail in the shots. The first shots of the sleek house in the daylight creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere. This is used to emphasise the contrast between this and the shot of the final house in the distance. The dark, dimly lit environment creates an eerie feel, preparing the audience for the film.

Shooting through the shattered glass, the audience feel more powerful than the characters as they watch from afar. This technique is often used in thrillers to involve the audience.

Intro music slow to build up tension. The use of eerie music is to fit the mood of serious-minded and suspense. The sound of a truck is used to set the scene, we know its not in a house.
